When you were born, there were people waiting for you. There were people waiting and excited for you to join the world, curious as to who you would be, what you would like, where you would go, what would you do, and what God had planned for you. Each time we celebrate a birthday for someone, we remember those hopes we had and see how they have developed. Today, we celebrate Jesus’ birthday, and remember the hope that was held by the Jewish people for what the Messiah would do when he came. Jesus’ life began in poverty, continued as a carpenter, then a teacher, and leads ultimately through his Death to his Resurrection, by which the plan for his life is completed in our salvation. Each year at Christmas our hopes are rekindled as we re-read the beginning of the New Testament. As we enjoy this season of Christmas, we carry the hopes that it kindles far beyond this day. When we meet to pray as a community, we shelter this light of hope and faith that is lit in us, and we continue to reflect on it, always trying to understand it more, letting it shine on our lives and our world. -Fr. Dan
