Dear Friends;
As the days of Lent continue we are in the third week of this season
and it is time to consider how we are doing with our disciplines.
Here is a reflection for your consideration.
Lent is a time for restoring balance to our lives.
The Eskimos know all about balance. They practice it every time they
venture out into freezing Arctic waters in one of their little
boats.
Have you ever tried to paddle a kayak? If you have, you know how
easy they are to tip. The advantage of kayaks, though, is that as
easy as they are to tip, they’re just as easy to right. An expert
kayaker can tip completely over, hanging head downward — and then,
with a quick twist of the paddle, turn the boat back upright again.
That isn’t a bad image for Lent. Whatever spiritual disciplines you
adopt, these 40 days are a time of shedding baggage, of getting back
to basics in our spiritual life. Eventually, we are to be like
Eskimos in their kayaks: just us against the waves, with only our
paddle and a tippy little boat to keep us safe.
If you capsize, though — if you succumb to temptation — it’s no
biggie. One of the lessons of Lent is that, as long as we’re
traveling light, it takes only a quick twist of the paddle to right
us. So don’t get worried if your spiritual discipline fails. Just
get yourself upright, and start all over again.—Carlos Wilton.
Have a good week.
Fr. Chris

THIRD WEEK OF LENT – The
Burning Bush and the Call of Moses. Today we hear the call of Moses
to lead his people from oppression to freedom. God promises to be
with them as they journey to a new life. Our participation in
Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl unites us in prayer,
fasting, and giving with the millions of people throughout the world
who are oppressed by poverty, injustice, war, disease, and lack of
education and other opportunities.

soliciting email addresses of our young people as we look into
providing a blog for them to be informed on the activities of the
parish and information on the Catholic Faith. Please fill out one of
the forms at the entrances of the church building.

EARLY MORNING MASS. A survey
is being taken to determine if there are enough people interested in
an early morning Mass on a weekday. Fr. Morris used to offer a 6:45
Mass on Fridays. I average 5-6 people at the 9am Mass, if I hear
from 5 people interested in an early morning Mass on Fridays, I am
willing to offer Mass at that time. I will continue an evening Mass
one day a week, and 9 am the other days. There is a sign up sheet at
the entrances of the church if you’re interested. |

NEXT WEEK, our parish will take up a second collection to
support The Catholic Relief Services. This collection helps to fund
six Catholic organizations that improve the quality of life and
protect human dignity. Your gift will support agricultural
development to strengthen economies and create food sustainability,
provide outreach services to survivors of human trafficking, supply
pastoral care and advocacy for immigrants and refugees. By helping
the marginalized and impoverished, you give hope to Jesus in
disguise. Please be charitable in next week’s Catholic Relief
Services Collection.
